the steam team
Want to talk to kids about your career? How about sing or play your instrument for a group? Then, you've got the right stuff to be a member of our STEAM Team.
The STEAM Team, our corps of hands-on volunteers, is recruited on an on-going basis. Adults or teens, the STEAM Team is made-up of active volunteers who have agreed to give their time to help children through E.S.T.E.A.M.
Here are a few examples of people on our STEAM Team who would visit E.S.T.E.A.M. Partner schools or afterschool programs:
- a STEAM Team member who specializes in Botany (plants), Entomology (insects) and Herpetology (snakes and reptiles). Her job is to do programs for kids and she is willing to come do site visits and do a Butterfly Program in the summer and a Snake Program another time of year.
- another STEAM Team volunteer who works for a library is willing to share her “Discovering Great Artists” program. The series includes Leonardo da Vinci and Pablo Picasso.
- another adult volunteer who currently works for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and was a former Senior Mission Specialist at the National Aeronautical Space Agency (NASA). She enjoys talking to young people about her experiences helping to launch NASA’s Space Shuttles.
- a helicopter pilot-turned-medical doctor who talks to kids about his experiences as an Army officer and physician.
